LINER NOTE June 21, 2026

Truly Alone

The whole song turns on a joke that isn’t funny: you can get exactly what you asked for and end up alone in an empty room with it. I didn’t understand the line when I wrote it. I do now. Solitude has never felt this crowded.

Lyrics

I didn’t get the letter, didn’t get the call
But I read in the papers, they got a message for all
So I’ve been watching the news, and I’m waiting on signs
My dreams have come true, and the world is ending this time

Finally got what I want, finally got what I want
I am truly alone

So I’ve got my choice of seats
I still hear you talking, I still hear you singing
But now I don’t have to answer when you say where you’ve been

Finally got what I want, finally got what I want
I am truly alone

Now the world’s all but gone, and you and I are still around
And it’s so cruel of you to say, do you miss me now?
You still talking
You still singing, you and I both know
The world’s not ending

Finally got what I want, finally got what I want
I am truly alone
